New life Development Society (NLDS) has been putting its best efforts for the development and empowerment of women in needy communities. One of the areas where NLDS has taken major steps is the fight against the social evils against women. Dowry system is one of the most deplorable social evils which has given birth to rampant rise in domestic violence and deaths related to dowry.

As an initiative to help people from economically weaker background, to reduce their financial burden, NLDS conducted the marriage assistance program in Gopalpur, Odisha on 7th November, 2018. During this occasion twenty women got married from various communities in Odishadistricts including Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Boudh, and Kalahandi.

The auspicious event was attended by over 300 people including families, friends, and staff as the couples exchanged garlands and performed the wedding rituals.The NLDS family wished them well with gifts to start their family life together. The gift package included many household items, new clothes for bride and bridegroom, blanket, bad sheet, dhari, ceiling fan along with bicycle.

All NLDS staff took active participation in arranging the program very well. The guests blessed the newly married couples and appreciated the efforts of NLDS in lending a helping hand to these women and their families.
